Making the foundation of the build and some good habits to practice
In this post, we will go over some good habits to practice, which car to choose, How to plan everything and save a lot of time and money!
First and the biggest thing you should understand is You cannot get back the money spent on the car. I mean that is the truth. If you decided to build an Rx7 that means you should be ready to accept you are going to do some hustlin'. If you really love Rx7 hustlin' is nothing am I correct. But remember to set a budget. trust me if you don't you will end up spending tons of money. Remember I'm telling again get ready to put a lot of money into the car that you cannot get out of it if you sell it.
Setting a budget for time and money. You might say "hey! time is not a big thing" But it is not the story. If you don't be efficient at managing time you will be dragging a project for moths that can be done in a few days. Even if money is not a big thing in your project. Making a budget plan will help you to divide the money equally without overspending on parts that don't make any difference compared to cheap counterparts. Ever wondered why F1 teams have a budget this is the reason.
Let's talk about MONEY a bit more. Many of us when we buy a car we get too damn excited. We start to buy some wheels a body kit and etc:- Let's pretend you just did. you put a new big ol wang, A new shiny wheels, and a nice speaker set. Now in another few months, you finally finished the project car, and now you're going to go to a local autocross event. and now you will start to face problems. you can get rejected from entering the stock or entry-level classes. Remember the wheels and tires if they don't suit your car's power output you will be wasting all that power you put months' worth of time and money. This is why a budget is very very very very important than you think. It will prevent you from wasting money on stuff that is going to slow you down.
How many times do you see guys selling brand new parts for cheap because they don't fit there needs after all the work done to the car? It might sometimes be your dad or brother or your friend. Don't be that guy! If they planned the project properly from the beginning would they have got themselves into a position like this probably not! You should budget every bit of your car Suspension, Engine, Turbo, Intake, Exhaust, Ignition, Interior, Gauges, Roll cage, Exterior(Defusers, Wings, New aero kit), Etc. Even if you have a set of wheels with you add a wheel budget, because sometimes the wheel might not fit you need to sell those wheels and switch to a new set then you can add the sold wheel money to the budget.

The next good habit noting down everything. Make a folder in your computer and take photos of the car, receipts for the parts, and labor costs, etc. This will give you a good idea of how much it takes to build a car. then you can share your information with others it will help them a lot and this will be helpful a lot when you build another car. For example, I did an evo3 conversion I had everything note down now my friend is going to do an Evo4 conversion but using my info he can assume how much he will be spending fully and what problems I had while conversion and how he can prevent them. The car community is all about sharing and caring depends on whom you ask. As a plus point, if your car gets stolen or in an accident, you know exactly how much you should ask from the insurance company. If you don't you will end up with a project car with a lot of useless parts. That you cannot do anything.
First, take the calender and give your self a time period. For example "before next week I will do the porting to my engine" Just take this only as a example. Limiting your time will help you from procastinating and get you to work on your project. Woman easily get hurt so make sure you make her understand that she is important to you more than the car. When you spend a bit of more time in the car they will easily start to think that u don't care about her anymore and the car is important to you than her. So for instance ask her how much hours should you work on the car (Just ask it will make her feel good lol!) Remember a car should never ever be given more importance than a human. If you fucked up your relationship because of a car. Then it's time to evaluate the decisions you took in your life.
Okay! let me stop life advice but lots of teens suck at relationships that's why I had to talk about it. However time management is very very important, when it's coming to how much time you should spend on different parts of your car. For example instead of hustlin with your new body kit to take it fitted you can take the car to your nearest body shop and get it fitted within a hour. There is a point for any part in your car. I personally always take the car to a garage to fit very complicated performance upgrades done there because time is very valuable to me. BTW Don't listen to the internet most of the people who say "if someone else put the parts in it doesn't make it your build" It's not the story. Ignore them and be smart. most of those guys don't own project cars (I mean kids on instagram) and a cunt.
Don't be that guy who doesn't read the assembly manual fully and build the car while reading it finishes the build and realise he forget to put a spring because he miss read the manual. If you don't understand watch this video from donut media he does the same fault it costed him a lot of time and broke some parts, I highly encourage to watch it TRYING to Rebuild an Air-Cooled Engine in 16 HOURS Plus keep your eye on the FB group or the forum for people posting how they fucked up there build by doing this and that "Smart people learn from there mistakes, Wise people learn from others mistake".
I wasn't going to include this but buying a already built car is better than building your own car from scratch. It's going to save you a lot of money and time. Yes! i agree nothing is rewarding as driving down the road in your newly finished Rx7. You know what is more rewarding is to buy a someone else's completed project car. Yes it might have some here and there small works but finish those small works, Add a few personal body and interior modifications and your ready to ride the car. Trust me after you drove the car for a while soon you will forget the fact this is someone else project car. You will feel the same way as if you build your own project car the greatest part is later if you get sick of the car you can sell it without losing a lot of money!
Next what you should understand is choosing the right car for you! Sometimes the Rx7 FD that you own right now might not be the car that will suit your performance need. It's better to sell it and buy a different Rx7 model that will suit your performance need for example "You wanna make a drag FC and you right now own a S4, If you know about S4 The rotor housing is only capable of handling 500bhp maximum, But the series 5 Can handle Over 500bhp" So you better off selling the Fc s4 and buying a series 5 Fc. If not you might be in a idea of adding a turbo to your car you better off buying a Turbo 2 Than starting with a GTU. Otherwise you have to spend a lot of money than you think.
The first step to pick the car that is suit your needs is, How do you want your car a daily driver? or a drag car? Or your going to build a drag car that is daily drivale? Are you going to race in touge? Or drift. Only then you can decide how much horsepower and how stiffer your car should be and etc. Next you can see if the car in your garage is suitable to your needs! If it's not sorry! you have to change it. Don't get emotionally get attached to a car a lot till you find the perfect car for you. Other wise Love will blind you! If you start with the wrong car soon you will start to regret it. Do some research i mean a very big research and find a car that is suitable for you!
With this last info the post is over. If you read till the end a special thanks to you! Sorry if i went to personal on some shit and hurted you, and drive safe! and remember this is your build so don't care about others opinion if you like fast and furious style pain job go for it.
